Now we find the word "accelerate" in the dictionary. And it is a verb! We are like, I knew it already :) It means "go faster". So, he sped up toward the stop sign. Uh oh, I don't think it is going to end well.
Now let's look for synonyms. The words, we can replace "accelerate" with, if we forget how to spell it. To hurry, to speed up and to increase speed. The antonym is "to slow down". We can yell: "Accelerate! Don't slow down!" As an expression I picked "to accelerate our efforts".
